  6. Aren’t the waxwings the sweetest things? :) If ever faced with the daunting task of choosing a favorite bird, they’d be in the top five. One snowy, winter afternoon I witnessed a flock of cedar waxwings feasting on a grove of crab apple trees. That year, much of the fruit remained on the branches, shriveled and dried…making a perfect midday snack!

Every autumn the Bohemian Waxwings migrate through our mountain valley. They move in large flocks and frequent the fruit trees. At times they even become drunken by the fermented berries that still hang from the trees. I enjoy watching these flighty, exotic looking birds as they flock to my cherry trees each year.
