This original oil painting was created with a palette knife and the brushwork was saved for the details. I enjoyed playing with the complimentary color tones of the purples and yellows.

very nice use of contrast color n nice speculars on glass bottle.. i wanted to ask that if any e wants to got for more detailing for oil painting is it ok to use reference photo, like in the above painting did u use any sort of reference for yellow bird …
Yes, I use reference photos for the bird. I use to keep frozen specimens, but that was gross – lol! So now I just use photos.
Thanks,
Lori
I just stumbled upon your work, from reading another newsletter. I love your work! I am experimenting with using a palette knife, but have no one locally who I can get help from. I know what I want to create, but haven’t figured out the technique yet. Any suggestions for good resources other than expensive workshop trips? Thanks. Becca
This is very lovely. The way you use your birds is such a delight. Like the real bird just flew in and landed on these stalks.
peace n abundance,
CheyAnne
Thank you CheyaAnne, I try to create that feeling! I’m glad you can see it that way…
Hi Becca,
The palette knife just takes some experimenting to understand the different techniques. try different shapes and sizes too…You just gave me a good idea for a video! Stay tuned!
