The American Kestrel, also commonly called the Sparrow Hawk, is actually a small falcon. These dynamic, graceful birds are a favorite of mine. I have painted them before, and I am always amazed by their understated beauty. In the wild, kestrels characteristically sit atop posts or other tall perches where they have a clear view – thus the name “Watchtower”.
